What is meant by the Sabbath???

Some background with regards to this topic first okok? =) In the bible, the Sabbath is a weekly day of rest, mentioned in Exodus chapter 16 and 23. The Hebrew word means "the day of rest (or ceasing)"

The first mention of the Sabbath was with respect to the day God rested after completing His work of creation. According to the book of Genesis, (the first book), God created man on the sixth day; and on the seventh day "he rested from all his labors", and therefore sanctified (made holy) the seventh day.

In Leviticus 23, God commanded Moses to tell His people to observe the Sabbath... one of the Day of Feasts, meant for communion(fellowship) among the people and more importantly spending time with Him!! it was meant to be a day for celebration and rejoicing.

Originally, the Sabbath refered to the time period between Fri sunset to Sat evening.. but can now mean Sunday, as a synonym for "the Lord's Day". Following a seven day week is also one of the reasons why over time.. we all adopted Sunday to be the seventh day..

=)

now wat does all that mean for us???

simply put.. it means that Sundays are set apart.. to be Holy... for the Worship of God, for God's people to spend time with each other.. and also for rest!!!

Coming to Church for Youth program and CG on Sundays to Worship.. and to learn about God is surely in line with this.. =)

can we work on Sundays then??? by work i am refering to studying/working etc...

hmmm.. this question is tricky.. and i invite the other leaders to give their inputs on this ya??

basically for me **this is my point of view** :

i feel tat it is alright to study on Sundays.. provided i remember to give God the priority.
Meaning i should not skip church to study just because of a test on monday etc... giving priority to rest is also important... meaning i will try to complete homework before Sunday.. so i wont be so panicky and afraid tat i havent finished!! haha.. being worried about work certainly doesnt help you to rest..
sometimes working on Sunday is unavoidable.. eg doctors working in hospitals definitely have to respond to calls of duty as well rite?? haha.. but like many things, we have a choice!!
lets say in the future.. we are looking for part time jobs in the holidays.. we are very clear that we should not choose jobs tat require us to work on Sunday mornings when we go fo Service rite?

do talk to the leaders should you wanna find out more!! =)

Love,
Fu
